QUICK! Time to mount up and rally to demand that abortions be outlawed! Time to protest, yell, and profane governments which permit such an outrage to occur!!! 12 women have died!!!
No?
Then why is this the proper response when one woman dies in Ireland because (in the opinion of her non-medically trained husband) her request to terminate a pregnancy was refused... especially when medical opinion states that performing an abortion would not necessarily have saved her life? Surely it's not because this tragedy is being used by some to promote a particular agenda is it?

1 woman died 'in persona Christi' Tim Moyle. ONE human being who was loved so deeply 'in persona Christi' Tim Moyle
ReplyDeleteHas the death of this beautiful person helped or hindered your great cause?
The real Jesus does not see a woman in Iraland as being worth less than a woman in Mattawa does he?
ReplyDeleteLarry: Clearly he does not.
DeleteFr. Tim
Then why would a representitve for Jesus Christ say to the world " SO WHAT?"
DeleteLarry: Who said 'so what'? I didn't. What representative are you speaking about?
DeleteFr. Tim
Larry: May I ask you in turn: Do the women who lost their lives in failed abortions count less than this one woman who died in Ireland?
DeleteFr. Tim
Every single human being is precious in the eyes of God. No where in any of the Gospels do we see Jesus raise the value of an idea (a cause) above the value of a human life. Did He give up his life to save the cause?
ReplyDeleteDeny if will but you do state implicitly and clearly about this particular loss of life “so what.” If that is not what you want to do , then retract it, denial won’t do that for you.
You are the priest.
Larry: I've read your comment a couple of times - and I still don't see what your point is. I posted this article to make the point that all life is sacred and precious to God, including those who died in botched abortions. There has been a BIG FUSS over the death of the lady in Ireland but there was silence in the face of these other deaths that occurred in the past year. My argument is why is it acceptable to sensationalize one and not the others when they were all equally deserving of life? NO WHERE do I use the words or phrase 'so what?' and I honestly don't get the point you are making.
DeleteSorry if I am just woolly headed today - the fruits of an interrupted nights sleep - but I just can't seem to understand what it is you are saying.
Fr. Tim
Well Tim, I can't get inside your head ( not that I would want to:) to turn on the light for you , so I guess for the time being you'll just have to wonder around in the dark.
ReplyDeleteFr. Tim,
ReplyDeleteIt's similar to defending a parent who uses faith healing to unsuccessfully cure their child of appendicitis by saying that in Canada 33 people last year who received medical help died of appendicitis. This was only one death, medical science killed 33.
People are outraged because, like the child of the faith healing parent, this death probably did not have to occur. Medical practice in situations where the pregnancy has naturally terminated and infection has set in is to remove the dying fetus. It's the adamant position that nothing can be done until the fetus' heartbeat stops that is scaring and outraging many people.
And it's the same outrage that society feels when a religious mandate top rely on faith healing kills a child who in would otherwise statistically stand a good chance of survival with proper medical intervention.
