Dear Fr. Tim,
ReplyDeleteIt would be good to put things into perspective. This article you link dates from September 2008 (4 years ago). A little from the past.....
Also noteworthy to notice that in it, it says that the suspended priest was no longer living in Medjugorje, but in Italy.
Furthermore, much water has travelled under the bridge since. Perhaps you should be informed that at the end of December 2009, Cardinal Schönborn has made a personal public pilgrimage to Medjugorje, encouraging people to do the same. Let's be honest, Cardinal Schönborn is not a nobody... Sure you will find some blog that rumours the Pope didn't like that, but until there is a public disapprouval against the Cardinal's actions and stand, the official line is Cardinal Schönborn supports and promotes Medjugorje.
Your brother in priesthood,
Fr. Real Ouellette
Fort-Coulonge QC
Réal: The article was published in today's London Mail (Sept 19) even though the date under the byline reads 2008. I stand by it for what it is... an article that indicates that this is a false apparition, soon to be declared so officially by the Vatican.
DeleteI know of Cardinal Schönborn supports and promotes this site... but he is not the Vatican. Where we can agree is that the Vatican will soon issue a report on the validity of Medjugorie. I guess the matter will be cleared up at that point. We shall all have to wait for this declaration, pro or con.
Fraternally,
Tim
Dear Fr. Tim,
DeleteAs much as I search on the London Mail website to find evidence of this article to be more recent than September 3, 2008, I find none.... I'm sorry, but websites of news services are well maintained and when it says the article is last updated in 2008, it is from 2008....
Zenit published an article on July 29, 2009, (so, a year after yours) on the laicization of (Father) Tomislav Vlasic... I encourage you to read it... his then Superior clearly says that Vlasic was assistant in Medjugorje when it all started, and that he was transferred from Medjugorje to Italy in 1985.... If Vlasic is a nut case who went bizurck with his ideas and immoralities, since he had no link with Medjugorje for the past 25 years, his sayings and actions are not to be put on the back of Medjugorje....
http://www.zenit.org/article-26586?l=english
Also, the same article mentions ((the last official statement from the Vatican)) in the person of Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, "that personal pilgrimages are permitted to the site, as the investigations continue"... I grant to you that Schönborn is not the Vatican... however, Bertone is number 2 at the Vatican...
I have gone myself once to Medjugorje in May 2011... for the $$$ aspect present there that so many refer to, I don't see anything different there than in Lourdes, Rome, Jerusalem... true, some people try to make money out of the so many pilgrims going there... but, on the church grounds and in the spiritual life that is lived there, Medjugorje could give quite a few lessons to many parishes around the world, ours the firsts....
Your brother in priesthood,
Fr. Real Ouellette
Fort-Coulonge QC
Réal: It appeared on my Google Reader today. The date at the top of the page is today's. I assumed that it was published today... but I may be wrong. (Wouldn't be the first time!) Either way, we will know once the Church officially pronounces one way or the other.
ReplyDeleteTim
The occurrences at Medjugorje are far more important the bunch of non-believers, especially those who do not frequent the Confessionals. If Fr. Moyle had ever visited there, as I have done 8 times, and witnessed the daily lineups at the many Confessionals, the thousands who attend Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament during the non-Winter nights, or the 600 or more on the other nights, in total silence, he would wonder what he is doing or not doing in his own Parish.
DeleteI know Priests who have gone there, one in particular who comes to mind, who confided in me that he had been thinking of leaving the Priesthood before he went to Medjogorje
in 2009, and still a valuable and sought after Confessor !
God deliver us from those who will NOT SEE !
